Barrister of the Year 2004
David Aubrey QC, Temple Chambers David is the Head of Chambers at Temple Chambers with particular specialities in Criminal Law, European Law and Mental Health Legislation. David has been involved in many cases including – the M50 killing of Marie Wilks, recent prosecutions of Bowen, in which the deceased’s body was not recovered, Baldwin where no body was recovered for a long time, and the notorius local case of Heggarty. One of David’s more high profile case was the “Who wants to be a Millionaire” trial in which David defended Tecwen Whittock, the man with the cough!

Benedict Stanberry, Avienda Benedict has been an active and influencial contributor to the field of e-health in Wales. Providing a communication bridge between the various stakeholders (government, healthcare providers, industry etc) who are involved in supporting this key element of Welsh healthcare modernisation. He has also developed important links with the international e-health community through his work with the European Health and Telematics Association.

Caroline Greathead, Anthony & Jarvie Solicitors Caroline is a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives and one of the founder members of the Solicitors for the elderly. She has become recognised as a champion and leader in the fight for the protection of the rights of elderly clients. Caroline heads up an elderly client department, which deals with wills, probate, community care, elderly client advice and chronic sickness advice. Working with organisations such as Age Concern, Alzheimer’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Downs Syndrome.

Legal Support Staff of the Year 2004
Clive Parish, Crown Prosecution Service Clive is the Gwent Trails Unit Business Manager and Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives. As Business Manager he negotiates skilfully with Bar Clerks on fees and deals with an enormous budget. Clive also supervises the administration of the office and has put into place office systems which have been praised in a recent CPS inspection. Whilst also being Secretary of the Client Joint Advocacy Standards Committee.

Helen Williams, Morgans Solicitors Helen has made an enormous contribution to social welfare law and also to the Welfare Specialist Support Service (WSSS). Helen has been Head of Department for Social Welfare Law at Morgans since 1999 and is also WSSS Co-ordinator for the Firm. Helen has also developed a thriving social welfare team within Morgans, developing community based outreach advice to clients across Cardiff, Caerphilly and Swansea. As a result of Helen’s work young solicitors have been attracted to specialise in the social welfare law field, thus ensuring that this vital work will continue in the future.
