Welsh Woman of the Year Awards has become an established and recognised backdrop for many of the successful women of Wales. A sheer showcase of talent identified in a diverse range of environments celebrated under one, very glamorous, roof!

The ceremony and gala dinner is an amazing event in its own right but for the finalists and winners the night is a phenomenal, often life changing, experience. These ladies are recognised and applauded by their families, peers and the community at large for their individual contribution.

Over the years some of the categories have changed, new ones have been added, others removed or simply the criteria redefined but the quality of the women involved remains forever constant. All of these women are dynamic, intelligent, hard working and determined individuals. Many are creative or innovative, some leaders in their field of expertise others work tirelessly for the benefit of others – As the remarkable individuals they are, whatever their background, they share a quality that drives them to be the very best that they can be.

Imagine harnessing that energy as one, just what could be achieved if they worked together as a team on Welsh projects that needed support. They are a wealth of knowledge and information, they have an abundance of experience, skills and qualifications that they could share with others who may learn or benefit from their help or guidance. Put simply this is a vital and as yet untapped Welsh resource!

WOW – Women of Wales has been founded by a few of the previous winners that simply couldn’t see such an opportunity go to waste. It serves to act as an alumni of Welsh Women, providing a central network of contacts for all involved in the Welsh Women process that may wish to build on existing relationships or forge new ones, using the pooled resources that this achieves. It will also include the friends and supporters of the Welsh Women process over the years that would like to continue their involvement.

Members will also have the opportunity to work together on charitable Welsh projects. The adopted charity is the Noah’s Ark appeal to fund the building of a new room at the children’s hospital and the target is £25,000 so any and all help and support would be greatly appreciated! Each year new charities are highlighted by the Welsh Women of the Year Awards and hopefully we will be able to lend practical and financial help to those too. Many of the Women mentor young or less experienced people and these will be included where possible on project teams, strengthening their own experience and the mentoring relationship.

No-one understands better how difficult it can be when you are starting a business or charity, returning to work after a break or re-training. Therefore WOW have set up a bursary which will allow young women to apply for financial and/or physical assistance to start them on their journey. Practical support for practical women.

This bank of excellent role models will also be available to talk to schools, colleges, and business support agencies; government initiatives, networking business groups or professional bodies. A valuable Welsh resource that it would be criminal not to use!
